THE FIRST CLASS VARSITY JACKET
Before there was one Virginia Union, there were many stories that had to come together.
The First Class Varsity Jacket tells that story piece by piece.
Across the sleeve are the names Wayland Seminary, Richmond Theological Seminary, Storer College and Hartshorn Memorial College, institutions whose histories became part of the Virginia Union story.
On the chest, 1865 marks the beginning.
“The Lord Will Provide” carries the university's motto.
1500 N. Lombardy St. marks the place generations of Panthers have called home.
And across the back sits one word:
UNION.
Because this jacket isn't simply about where Virginia Union is. It's about everything that had to come together for Virginia Union to become what it is.
The traditional varsity silhouette was intentional. Varsity jackets have always been records of belonging. Letters, numbers, patches and places tell you where someone came from and what they were part of.
We used that same language to tell VUU's history.
And embedded within the garment is NFC technology connecting the jacket to The Legacy We Wear, the original Genius League Studios documentary that takes you deeper into the history represented throughout the piece.
Tap the garment. The patches become chapters.
